Letter from the Seller
Over the last five years, I’ve loved living at 324 Franklin Avenue, transforming the garden and filling it with native plants, like Virginia bluebells and Indian pinks, and also renovating the original sleeping porch, adding casement windows, pendant lighting, and making it into a treehouse-like space for entertaining or just for curling up and reading a book.
Guests park down the shared long driveway but, when I first moved in, there was no formal back entry to the house, so guests had to walk to the front. I worked with an architect to solve the problem and designed a lovely new covered staircase and porch, both made of a Brazilian hardwood, that allow guests to enter in style! We also, in the process, decided to expose the old clapboard siding, increasing the character of the house.
The house sits just a few blocks from Sligo Creek and I love taking long walks with friends down the bike trails. Another favorite thing to do is to take a walk to the downtown Silver Spring farmer’s market on a Saturday morning. I will miss this location in many ways. When I worked in downtown DC, I often walked to the metro in the morning and took the bus home in the evening (being dropped off practically at my front door).
Last, I should mention my great neighbors. In the many places, I’ve lived in my life, I have never had such wonderful neighbors—considerate, interesting, welcoming, and fun.
